Author/illustrator Canizales returns to SPA207 to talk about his work
On Wednesday March 16th, the awarded Colombian author and illustrator Canizales virtually returned to Princeton to join the students in SPA 207 this semester, taught by instructors Anais Holgado Lage and Juan Diego Pérez, and have a conversation about his graphic novel, “Amazona” and some of his other publications. The novel is read by the students every semester and focuses on the journey of an indigenous woman of the Colombian amazon, Andrea, in her quest to figure out why her community has been forced out of their sacred lands. Canizales also talked about other books, mostly children’s literature. Students asked questions about both “Amazona” and some of his other works, including topics like his creative process, the choice of topics, the language he uses or the importance of having a target audience. It was a pleasure for everyone to have Canizales return to our SPA207 courses (even if in Zoom), and the students showed their gratitude and interest during the talk as well as in the discussion board that followed the event.
