SPA 107 – Spring 2022 final event – Invitation to Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers Labor Union
Dolores Huerta visited students in Spanish 107 to talk about the power of voting and the importance of representing our communities as messengers of peace and justice. Dolores empowered students and all attendees by asking them not to be afraid of being different and to speak up against social injustices when they see them. She told students that they have the key to democracy by voting and electing leaders who promote equal rights and justice. She also encouraged everyone to get involved in the politics of our communities and our country.
Dolores ended the conversation by asking all attendees to chant together:
Dolores: Who’s got the power?
Attendees: We’ve got the power!
Dolores: What kind of power?
Attendees: People power!
Dolores: ¿Se puede o no se puede?
Attendees: ¡Sí se puede!
