2018 ADFL Summer Seminar

Plenary II: The Foreign Language Requirement in the Twenty-First Century

By Mariana Bono

The Association of Departments of Foreign Languages (ADFL) organizes a Summer Seminar at Michigan State University in East Lansing from May 30 to June 2, 2018. The seminar will address new spaces, literal and metaphorical, for the teaching and learning of languages and literature—curricular changes, administrative reconfigurations, department mergers, new models for humanities advocacy. My contribution will focus on programmatic reform and curricular innovation, the foreign language requirement, and ways to situate language study within a larger context of cultural inquiry.
